weekend afternoon lunch

one of my favorite weekend afternoon lunches is a simple plate of hummus and pita. i like to make my own hummus and it's really easy to buzz up a batch in a few minutes in the food processor. and, as luck would have it, i got a new one from santa for christmas! here's my first batch using the new food processor...

hummus

here's the recipe that i've come up with. it's by no means authentic, but i like it quite a lot.

1 clove garlic
1 can chick peas, drained
1 - 2 tbsp. tahini (sesame paste)
juice of one lemon
salt to taste
olive oil

start food processor, and keep it running the whole time. drop in garlic clove and process till minced. add chick peas and process till chopped. pour in tahini, lemon juice and salt. pour olive oil in a thin stream (like you're making an emulsion) and process until smooth. serve on a plate with some olive oil drizzled on top and a little paprika.

I'm waiting for my ancient Cuisinart to die before I join the club. I think Jeff sells them on the side and gets a "cut" for each. Ha! good job if you can get it.
